First world series game 2024
The question, from earlier this evening: Sixty years ago, in Game 2 at old Busch Stadium, the Yankees beat the Cardinals, 8-3, to spoil Bob Gibson’s World Series debut. https://paradisewinellc.com/ Gibson (who would win his next two starts and take the series’ MVP award) is one of seven pitchers with 3,000 strikeouts who have started World Series games against the Yankees. Can you name the other six?
“We’re going to get some tests at some point tonight, tomorrow, and then we’ll know more in the next couple days,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “But the strength was great. The range of motion, good. So we’re encouraged.”
An efficient inning by Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Despite a walk to Anthony Rizzo, he got Jazz Chisholm, Austin Wells and Anthony Rizzo out on nine combined pitches to keep the game scoreless.
The Japanese right-hander threw 6.1 innings while allowing just one hit — a Juan Soto solo home run — with two walks and four strikeouts. Two of those came against AL MVP favorite Aaron Judge, who finished the night 0-4 with three strikeouts. Judge has struggled mightily this postseason, entering Saturday’s matchup with a .154 batting average and striking out three times on Friday.
World series game 1 highlights
11:20 p.m. RBI FIELDER’S CHOICE — Chisholm helped manufacture a run by stealing third, his third stolen bag of the night. Anthony Volpe grounds out to shortstop, and the Dodgers get an out at second base while Chisholm scores to give the Yankees the lead.
2024: Dodgers 6, Yankees 3 (10 innings)This one wasn’t just one of the greatest World Series openers in history, it was one of the greatest World Series games, period. In the bottom of the 10th, with the Dodgers down to their final out and trailing, 3-2, Freddie Freeman stepped to the plate with the bases loaded to face Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes. Freeman had been hobbled by an ankle injury and had been questionable to play in the Series but started in Game 1.
1995: Braves 3, Cleveland 2Coming off a National League Championship Series sweep of the Reds, the Braves squared off against Cleveland, which was heavily favored after winning 100 games in a strike-shortened season. Cleveland got on the board early after leadoff man Kenny Lofton reached on an error and then scored when Carlos Baerga hit an RBI groundout — all against NL Cy Young Award winner Greg Maddux. But the Mad Dog was nails the rest of the way, giving up just two hits and one additional run while tossing a complete game on 95 pitches. In the process, Maddux outdueled Orel Hershiser, who turned over a bases-loaded jam to Cleveland’s bullpen, which in turn allowed two runs to score. The Braves’ Game 1 win helped Atlanta become the first club since the LCS went to a best-of-seven format in 1985 to sweep and then go on to win the World Series.

College world series game
The currently binding contract began in 2011, the same year the tournament moved from Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium to the venue now known as Charles Schwab Field Omaha, a new ballpark across from CHI Health Center Omaha.
The CWS format changed in 2003 from a winner-take-all championship game to a best-of-three series. In the 20 finals since the change, the Game 1 winner has gone on to win the national championship 13 times, including each of the last two years.
A new college baseball champion has been crowned and it is the Tennessee Volunteers for the first time in school history. They prevailed Monday over the Texas A&M Aggies in Game 3 of the championship round of the College World Series, 6-5.
While the Stamos/Causey piggyback has not been as successful in Omaha, Tennessee has stayed committed to this plan and throughout the regular season they were routinely soaking up seven or eight innings in series openers. So, while it’s unusual and opens coach Tony Vitello and pitching coach Frank Anderson to criticism when it doesn’t work, it’s also understandable why Tennessee stuck with the plan in its biggest games of the season.
